Sustainable Tourism

We all have a responsibility to protect and sustain the world’s natural and cultural resources.

Annaliza Laxamana

A part of Annaliza Laxamana’s speech during the press launch of The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)-Philippines National Forum:

We all have a responsibility to make a difference.

We call upon both public and private stakeholders in tourism, tourism enterprises and trade associations, from our suppliers and local host communities to commit to responsible practices.

Corporate businesses can assist by providing markets, capacity building, mentoring and micro-financing support for small, medium and micro enterprises.

We call upon local authorities and tourism administrations to develop – through multi-stakeholder processes – destination management strategies and responsible tourism guidelines to create better places for host communities and the tourists who visit.

We all have a responsibility to make a difference by the way we act.

We call upon the media to exercise responsibility in the way in which they portray tourism destinations, to avoid raising false expectations and to provide balanced and fair reporting.

We commit ourselves to work with others to take responsibility for achieving the economic, social and environmental components of responsible and sustainable tourism.

From The News

With the aim of supporting sustainable destination development in the Philippines, LEADimpact Asia, in collaboration with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council – GSTC and the Society for Sustainable Tourism & Development, Inc. (SSTDI), brings to the Philippines the 1st GSTC-supported national forum on sustainable tourism.

A key outcome of the national forum will be to launch various sustainable tourism training programs in key destinations of the country, as well as all the regions of the Philippines to help implement tangible actions that fulfill the globally recognized standards of sustainability best practices for destinations and the tourism industry.

We can only maintain Boracay’s picture perfect qualities if we can strictly enforce responsible tourism. It’s the only way we can support a sustainable and inclusive tourism program.
