Going eCommerce, Are You Ready?

I have so many friends who told me they wanted to do e-commerce, but the first thing I asked them would be if they’re ready to be bothered at anytime? Once you start generating sales, your mobile phone will start ‘kitok kitok’ with notifications. If could be every second of you’re doing well. Otherwise, 1 sale is good enough, at least better than nothing.

People are thinking too much that take them months or probably years to event decide what to sell.

I remember when I first started my e-commerce back in 2004/2005, I didn’t have a laptop at all. I do have a PC though but there was no internet connection at home.

So what I did was, I spent so much time at the cybercafe, entering so many chatting sites like Yahoo messenger, MSN Messenger but my main one was IRC. Because I am so passionate about doing sales and I am so into computers and the internet, I found my way to sell things online.

Surprisingly or I would say I am very lucky to strike my first 2 sales to 2 different men, one in Amman, Jordan and one in Alexandria, Egypt. My first few products at that time was freshwater pearl necklaces. I took photos of the necklaces and bracelets with a very low photo quality using my NEC phone my dad got for me from the UK, shared the photos with the strangers I meet on the chat room, sent them the photos and quoted my prices, amazingly they agreed and sent me money via Western Union.

Only after that, I managed to sell my freshwater pearl necklaces to my very first customer in West Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur to be exact. I repeated the same strategy as above and she bought from me a few times after that.

The steps are very straight forward. I hunt for products, I took photos, I market them online with prices, receive payment then post them. As simple as that.

The key here is to TAKE ACTION!

I don’t like to think unnecessary obstacles that doesn’t exist. Hence, I took every single action I could and start doing things online.

Keep in mind that entrepreneurship is a process, and action speaks louder than words.

Execute. Take action. Bingo!
