WowComm 2019 – Workshop of the World Communicate

WOWComm 2019 is a conference which dedicates its very essence and sustainability to saving the planet.

Why communication and why green?

Because sustainability is the name of the game in this time and age.

You will want to transform the way you communicate and change the manner you conduct your business for the sake of sustainability, all in a sustainable world, on a sustainable planet.

Communicate With A Cause

Bridging the gap between sustainable professionals and the communication professionals so that the movements are aligned when it comes to mass approach for common good.

People, Process, Technology

Technology is not an issue as whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can be achieved.

The missing link is communication between people.

People who have no hold over their process of thinking are likely to be ruined by liberty of thought. If thought is immature, liberty of thought becomes a method of converting men into animals.

Muhammad Iqbal

And our Deputy Prime Minister shared her thoughts on that 5 foundations for a good communication:

(1) Communicate with conscious.

(2) Be kind with power.

(3) Communicate with others. Not merely to others. Build bridges instead of barriers.

(4) Strengthen the democracy.
Rakyat to define our identity and our democracy.

The rakyat must speak out and define our identity and democracy. Otherwise, the voice of hatred and animosity would gain more momentum and become like a runaway train that will one day hurt us all.

Do not waste our time trying to debate with the bigots and hate mongers.

The focus should be on creating a narrative of togetherness, kindness and mutual respect that define Malaysians.

Make this a positive, the dominant and loudest narrative. More Malaysians should speak out for the sake of preserving our new democracy, for the sake of our hard-won freedom, and for the sake of our children.

Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail

(5) Be mindful to long term interest. Do not derail by short term issues.

Social Enterprises: The Tool for Shared Prosperity

If you have two products of the same value and the same appeal but you know that one brand is doing something good for a greater cause, you would automatically look for the one that is serving a greater purpose.

BFM’S Freda Liu, Business radio presenter, author and emcee

How SDGs are interlinked?

When we think of one aspect of one thing that we do, it does have an impact on everything else

Freda Liu explained how SDGs such as Clean Water and Sanitation has a direct impact on Gender Equality.

In some countries that require water to be collected, girls are sent by their families to perform the task instead of boys.

“When they are collecting water, it means they are not going to school. The boys are not the ones collecting the water,” she said.

By addressing SGD6 which is Clean Water, Gender Equality is also addressed in the process.

How you can make a difference?

  1. Thinking of starting a business? Start a social enterprise instead.
  2. Get corporate gifts and engage training providers from social enterprises.
  3. Include social enterprises in your supply chain.
  4. Verify a social enterprise’s legitimacy with bodies like MAGIC, Purpose Malaysia, Social Enterprise Alliance Malaysia and similar agencies.
