Given the generation nowadays who are so obsessed to technological devices such as the mobile phones, tablets and computers, the risk of having vision problem is largely increased.
Consequently, the need of wearing the corrected power of glasses is also increased.
Thus, Mr. Chai and his wife decided to setup this conventional business, but run it through the social enterprise model.
Established on 3rd of April 2018, OO United Optical started their business on 9th of June in the same year.
The name of company was created by the founder, Mr. Chai’s second son, Jordan Chai, an experienced and qualified Optician.
The name of ‘OO’ means Optician and Optometrist.
Free Eye Inspections
One of the key activities in giving back to society as part of the CSR practice is the free eye inspection services given to educational institutions, specifically primary and secondary schools.
This is to create the awareness of the importance to take care of our eyes among the younger generations.
Spectacles Donation
Once the free eye inspection activities are being carried out, there will be a known list of who would need the spectacles. For those who can’t afford a pair of glasses, the company will arrange donors to donate the specs to the needy, one to one basis.
While it may seems illogical or contrary for a business that sells glasses to go all out and educate the public the importance of taking care of their eyes so that there is no need to buy the spectacles, it is worth studying this new way of doing business where it takes creating social impact alongside self sustain seriously.
