Sustainability Ready Exporters (Su-RE) Conference 2019

SuRE Conference 2019 took place at MATRADE Exhibition & Convention Centre on 19 Nov 2019, 8.30am to 12.30pm. This is almost third event in a row that is related to SDG since the launching of Malaysia SDG Summit 2019 followed by yesterday’s ASEAN Sustainable Development Summit (ASD 2019) at Sunway Resort Hotel.

MATRADE presented this unique knowledge exchange platform (Su-RE Conference) in an effort to transform Malaysia into a trading nation that is capable of meeting the rising demand from global consumers for sustainable products and services.

While the event targeted Malaysian companies (SMEs, Start-ups, Mid-Tier, Large Corporations) already in the export business or aspire to export with the aim to help enhance their knowledge and understanding on values of sustainability for their export business, it was also attended by students and the public.

Welcoming Remarks by Tan Sri Dr. Halim Mohammad, Chairman of MATRADE

Keynote Address by YB Datuk Ignatious Darell Leiking, Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI)

Editor Notes

  • Not only good profit but how the profit is generated.
  • Business excellence should be beyond profit.
  • Sustainability, short term to win competition, long term to ensure existence.
  • If sustainability gets itself right in international trade, prosperity is de facto.
  • Value chain – the entire life cycle of a product, point of production, point of sales etc.
  • You can’t manage what you can’t measure.

Some notes from Panel #1’s session under topic “Building a Sustainable Supply Chain” shared by Margie Ong, Founder / CEO of Thoughts In Gear.

A sustainable supply chain is a supply chain that manages Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) impact across the value chain.
