The Power of Social Media – The Case of LinkedIn (Example)

Once you setup your center of universe in the digital world, i.e. your website, which is one of your most important digital assets on the internet, the next thing is to start promoting it.

You can have both the search engines and the social media approach running in parallel.

Remember that 3 phases in running the digital business?

First you need to setup your system properly, then get it found over the digital medium, and maintain that connection with your audience, be it the public, prospects or clients.

Let’s look at a real life case study in terms of LinkedIn posting and the potential reach out. Keep in mind that while both Facebook and LinkedIn is about brand awareness, LinkedIn has its niche in presenting your professionalism to a more targeted market.

People go to Facebook mostly for leisure or fun, while they mostly look for professional advice or info over LinkedIn.

Case Study: LinkedIn Post

I started a book project titled Blockchain Insider back in August 2017, with the purpose of presenting my editorial work gradually and to log every related activities in the blog section as updates and chronology of what I had done along the journey.

By October 2019, I had 3 important sections up and due to the crypto winter facing the industry back then, I decided to put my work on the internet for free access to those who happened to land into the sites where these info resides.

LinkedIn sent me a surprise by alerting me that my post was trending back then. It was my first sharing that has more than 50,000 views.

Looking at the date and numbers:

4th Oct, 2019 – 34,225 views
5th Oct, 2019 – 56,792 views
4th Dec, 2019 – 69,198 views
12th Jan, 2020 – 69,202 views

It can be concluded that:

  1. Trending & Tipping Point
If you really provide that valuable information on social media and it was shared by other Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) or someone who has a bigger network, your post could be trending (or goes viral, as many would like to call it) in a certain period of time.
  2. Timeline Issue
There is a time frame for your post’s visibility. Would you be scrolling down your past activities and show other people what you did 1 year ago or even few years ago (vice versa)? What if you are a frequent updater of your activities or posts in scroll-based social media presentation? Would that means your post will be buried down in pile of information over time?

While social media could be a good platform for effective communication, without the search capabilities, there is a limitation to social media posting or contents. Besides, consider the ultimate ownership and control over your info for the long run.

The exact content on my LinkedIn posting was:

A recap for what had been done to date on the Blockchain Insider book project.

Chapter 1 : Blockchain, Bitcoin, Money

To explore Blockchain, you need to study Bitcoin. To understand Bitcoin, you need to know what is money and how it works.

Chapter 2 : The Name of The Game

If history does repeat itself, you will be amazed by how similar it is the evolution of the blockchain to that of the internet.

Chapter 3 : Smart Money

What we have now is truly borderless, programmable money backed by immutable computer systems based on pure logic & mathematics.

Above post also hashtag these 5 keywords: blockchain, bitcoin, money, book, technology .

The example given is following path (1) Organize > Monetize of the 2 general paths for monetization in digital world, though it is not so much of a direct income generation.

By having such a post and organizing the content in such a way:

1) It makes it simpler for people to access to my work

2) It can be used as a forwarding message in social media or messaging apps whenever needed with simple copy paste forward method

3) Not only the content, but what happened may become a good case study that can be used in my presentations or any upcoming works (such as this article), simply walk the talk.

4) Any other good things that happens along the way will be an added bonus to be accepted with gratitude and great honor.
