Preparation For Government Grants

If you plan to get a government grant for your digital or online presence, some preparation has to be done before applying:

  1. Make a simple website – with or without domain attached
  2. Prepare your simple reasons why you deserve the grant
  3. When they call you on the phone for some interview, please don’t talk too much or exaggerate. Answer as simple as possible, sharp but clear.
  4. A registered company with a company bank account is a must.
  5. A proof of sales (not necessary but to have any is a good backup)
  6. Try to get some real feedback from buyers or friends who are willing to give one (not necessary but as a backup)
  7. Be knowledgeable in your products. Questions will be asked related to the products you’re selling or the service you provide

3 Examples of Harsh Words You Shouldn’t Say During A Government Grant Interview

Please avoid saying harsh words during the interview such as:

1) Like I said (lah) ❎

Don’t expect them to understand you straight away. There’s a reason why they asked you again and again. No need to be so corky in any interview.

Note: ‘lah’ is a form of Malaysian expression in conversation

2) Of course ❎

When you say of course, you assume people to know the benefit of the product or service. That’s why people ask. People need to be educated. Not to be condemned for asking something they would like to know further in order to give you a grant.

3) It’s up to you (lah) ❎

Don’t talk to the interviewer as though you don’t care if they will give you a grant or not. This could be due to some sort of lack confidence. Do not underestimate the kindness of the grant giver.
